img5Satay and soursop!

This is the second installment of MC (Makan Crusade), and this time it’s at the Old Kallang Airport Road hawker centre.

The hawker centre there is quite well-known for its Fried Hokkien Mee, Fried Kway Teow, Satay, and Kway Chap. (All local delicacies)

Danny choo was here not long ago as well; he had quite a feast with One and Ryukawa after touching down in Singapore from Japan. Remember his speaking appointment at Promax BDA Asia and Animax Blogging Workshop?

There were plenty of choices there, ranging from Fried Hokkien Mee to Char Kway Teow to pasta, catering to every taste and like. I was in the midst of choosing either Kway Chap or Fried Hokkien Mee until I chanced upon the Lao Fu Zi Char Kway Teow (老夫子炒果条). I loved it years ago, and I love it now.

Words can hardly describe the feeling of satiation from food when you’re just that damned hungry, so I’ll let the pictures do the talking.

img1Carbonara, looks great. However I’d think it to be quite out-of-place to be eating pasta here :P

img3Pork chops, with a delectable combination of potato and bacon bits, and colesaw.

img6And of course, the satay! A combination of grilled chicken or pork on sticks, dipped in a nutty sauce, companied by cucumbers, onions, and kutupat (A kind of Malay rice, correct me if I’m wrong)

Generally the prices are cheap, ranging from $3-5 or more depending on what you eat but they’re typically hawker prices. The hawker centre is pretty big with plenty of seats around, but nevertheless during lunch or dinner hours, it’ll get pretty crowded.

I’ll recommend the soursop drinks to go with your meal. 美味い!

Starting with this installment of MC, I’ll introduce a rating system of sorts, from 1 to 5.

1 -Food sucks, one sacrifice is enough!

2 -The food is below average, meh.

3 – Stuff isn’t bad, not that awesome but just not bad.

4 -Food’s pretty good! Go if you can!

5 – Die die must go. You’re missing out on good stuff!

As it’s a hawker centre and not particular dishes I’m pointing out on, I’ll rate base on what I’ve eaten that day.

MC Rating: 4

p.s. Actually I went there last Friday, but JLPT’s hammering time out of schedule, so this post had been on a little hiatus. orz

I need fooooooood.

Everything looks so tasty… but I’ve always had fears eating outside because of pricing issues D:.

Comment by Netto

@ Netto: The prices there are reasonable, as with most other coffeeshops. Just avoid town and restaurants? Otherwise I think food prices are still pretty reasonable :P
